Following the unsuccessful Encina Hall sit-in, the April Third Movement regrouped, forming affinity groups and staging an educational carnival in White Plaza on May 12, 1969.
On May 1, 1969, the April Third Movement briefly occupied Encina Hall, one of the main administration buildings. It ended when University officials brought in police—the first time police were called in to quash a sit-in on campus.
